Extensions & Alterations, Rockland St. Mary
My clients existing house, built in the ā70sā, was no longer suitable for their specific needs and we were asked to design extensions and remodelling to give more suitable family accommodation and also to provide for the specific needs of their disabled child.
The nature of the site meant that the bulk of the extension had to be at the rear, with a small side extension to provide a bathroom. The plan arrangement resulted in a house that was quite deep from front to back and it was therefore necessary to introduce extensive area of glazing at the rear, which also enabled views over the large garden.
The rear glazing mainly comprises sliding-folding doors which, in the better weather, can be opened up to leave uncluttered openings. The roof is constructed to oversail the glazing to minimise the effect of solar gain.
