Care Home Extension, Sparham
Sparham Residential Care Home was originally formed from the extension and conversion of existing barns and outbuildings.
Our client approached us to design a single storey extension for the home to provide additional bedrooms, communal spaces and ancillary accommodation. Whilst the site is relatively large, the logical location for the extension was directly to the rear of the existing. The extension has a central corridor with rooms located to both sides. The corridor is varied in width to reduce its apparent length and incorporates sun pipes to allow adequate natural light.
The extension is constructed with masonry walls and a trussed rafter roof, covered with clay pantiles. The floor construction utilises precast concrete beams with block infill.
